Privacy and data
This policy applies to the CatchClock website you are reading and to the CatchClock mobile application, operated by IURII FILIN (the Service Provider). The two are not the same product and they do not collect the same things, so this page keeps them apart: the website sections describe what happens when you open a page here, and the app section describes the mobile application. Where a practice applies to both, it is in the final part. This policy is effective as of September 25, 2026.
What the website collects from you
Nothing you type, because there is nowhere to type. The site is a set of static pages; it has no login, no comment box, no newsletter signup and no contact form. We do not ask for your location either — city pages are pre-computed for a named city, not generated from your position, so the browser permission prompt for location never appears on this website.
Because the website holds no personal data of yours, there is no access, export or deletion request to make about it: there is nothing on our side with your name on it to hand over or erase. The rights described further down still apply to anything the app collects.
Cookies, and what the site keeps in your browser
CatchClock sets no cookies. Nothing on this site stores a value in your browser in order to recognize you on a later visit, which is also why you will never see a consent banner here — there would be nothing for you to consent to.
Five values can be stored in your browser's local storage, and each one exists so the next page opens the way you left it: the light or dark theme picked in the header, your choice of Fahrenheit or Celsius, of feet or metres, of a 12- or 24-hour clock, and the interface language picked in the footer. They are stored under the names theme, temp-unit, length-unit, time-format and locale, and that is the complete list. Each is written only when you change that setting, so if you have not touched a switch there is no value at all. None of them leaves your device, none identifies anybody, none is read by us, and clearing site data removes them all.
Counting page views
We do count page views, using Ahrefs Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it records that a page was opened, roughly where in the world from and what referred you, in aggregate, without setting a cookie and without an identifier that follows you to another site. We use it for one thing — to see which pages people actually read — and it is the reason the site can exist without advertising.
What a page loads, and from where
Most pages are plain HTML and CSS with a small amount of JavaScript of our own. There are no advertising networks, no social embeds, no comment platforms, no chat widgets and no web fonts pulled from a third party — the type you are reading is whatever your own device provides. Nothing on the page calls a live weather or forecast service: every number is computed before the page is published.
Pages that show a map are the exception, and it is worth stating plainly. The map is drawn by MapLibre GL, an open-source library we ship with the page, and the map tiles are requested from OpenFreeMap, a third party. Loading those tiles tells OpenFreeMap your IP address and which part of the map you are looking at, the same way loading any image from another domain would. We receive nothing back from them about you. Maps appear on the fishing spots page and in the access section of some city pages; every other page never contacts them at all. The access points themselves come from our own published data files, not from a third party.
Serving the site does involve our host, a content delivery network, and like every web host it keeps short-lived request logs — IP address, user agent, the URL requested — for security and abuse prevention. We do not use those logs for analytics, and we have no way to connect them to a person. Your browser may receive a security cookie from the CDN itself; we do not read it and it tells us nothing about you.
The CatchClock mobile app
This section describes the CatchClock application for mobile devices and takes effect with its release; the website sections above apply whether or not you ever install it. The Application collects information when you download and use it, which may include your device's Internet Protocol address, the pages of the Application that you visit together with the time and date of your visit and the time spent on those pages, the total time spent in the Application, and the operating system you use.
The Application or its third-party SDKs may use cookies, SDKs, pixels and similar technologies to support functionality, analytics or service delivery. Where required by applicable law, the Service Provider will obtain consent before using non-essential tracking technologies.
The Application collects your device's location to provide location-based features, improve the Application and support related services. Location data may be used to provide location-based features or content; aggregated location data may help the Service Provider understand usage patterns and improve performance; and location data may be shared with third-party services used to support Application functionality, subject to this policy and applicable law.
For a better experience, the Service Provider may require you to provide certain personally identifiable information, including an email address. The information requested is retained and used as described in this policy. The Service Provider may use the information you provide to send important information and required notices and, where permitted by law, marketing communications.
Third-party services used by the app
Only aggregated, anonymized data is periodically transmitted to external services to help the Service Provider improve the Application and its service. The Application uses third-party services that have their own privacy policies about handling data; each is listed below with a link to its own policy. None of these services is used by the website.
Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, Facebook, GameAnalytics, OneSignal, AppLovin, Amplitude and Adjust. Each of those policies is the service's own, not ours
The Service Provider may disclose user-provided and automatically collected information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process; when acting in good faith to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud or respond to a government request; and to trusted service providers who work on their behalf, have no independent use of the information disclosed to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules in this policy.
You can stop further collection of information from your mobile device by uninstalling the Application, and from this website by ceasing to use it. In both cases that stops new collection but does not automatically delete information already transmitted to the Service Provider or to third parties; to have that deleted, use the contact address below.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held by the Service Provider, and you may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, by writing to [email protected]. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal, and processing based on other lawful bases continues as described above. Some user-provided data may be required for the Application to function, and deletion requests are subject to any legal obligation to retain the data.
California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise your rights under the CCPA and CPRA, write to [email protected].
International data transfers
The Service Provider or its third-party service providers may transfer personal data to countries outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable law requires safeguards for such transfers, the Service Provider uses an appropriate mechanism: Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, an adequacy decision or another legally recognized transfer mechanism, or your consent where that is required and legally permitted. Data protection laws in other countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
How long data is kept
Personal data is retained for as long as it is necessary for the purposes described here. User-provided data is retained for the duration of your use of the Application plus twelve months, unless longer retention is required by law. Automatically collected data is retained for up to twenty-four months from collection, unless longer retention is required for legal compliance. Aggregated and anonymized data is retained indefinitely, because it no longer identifies you. Data required for legal compliance is retained as long as applicable law requires.
Children
The Application is not intended for children under 16 years of age, or such higher age as applicable law requires, and the Service Provider does not knowingly solicit data from children or market the Application to them. Where parental or guardian consent is required by law, the Application is not intended for use without it. If the Service Provider discovers that a child has provided personal information, it will be deleted from their servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, write to [email protected] so the necessary steps can be taken.
Security and breach notification
The Service Provider provides physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect the information it processes and maintains. If a data breach occurs that affects your personal data, the Service Provider will notify you in accordance with applicable legal requirements, including, where required, information about the nature of the breach and the steps being taken to address it.
Changes, consent and contact
This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes are announced by posting the updated policy with a new effective date, and where the law requires it your consent will be sought before they take effect. The date at the top of this page is that effective date, and it moves only when the text does. Previous versions are kept and are available on request.
Where processing is based on consent, you give that consent by affirmatively opting in to the relevant feature, and you may withdraw it at any time. For any question about privacy or about the practices described here, write to [email protected].
